Activate Automation

1. After reading this full page, you’ll click the “Get my Template” button at the bottom of this page. It will open the spreadsheet for you & you’ll see another blue button that says “Use template” in the top corner of the spreadsheet. Click that button. This will make a usable copy in your Google Drive. See note below for mobile users.
2. Open the template on a computer. For the first run, you’ll need to use a desktop or laptop browser. Mobile browsers cannot activate the automation.
3. Click the Receipts menu. At the top of the sheet, you’ll see a menu called Receipts (to the right of the “Help” menu). Click it, then choose Enable Receipt Automation.
4. Allow permissions. Google will ask you to authorize the script. Click Advanced, then Go to 2026 Receipts (unsafe), and finally Allow. This is normal—your data remains private.
5. Done! The activation tab will disappear. From now on you can add receipt photos from any device via the Google Sheets app, and the automation will run every few minutes.

Troubleshooting & Support

If the sheet opens in view-only mode or without the Receipts menu, make sure you followed Step 1 above (open on a desktop). The mobile app won’t show custom menus.

Access Your Template

Click the button below to generate your personal copy of the tracker as a Google template. Once the page opens in the new tab, click the “Use Template” button that appears in the top right corner.

If you do not see the “Use Template” button in the top right corner of the new sheet, return to this page and click here to copy manually .

We recommend using a desktop or laptop when clicking Use Template because a computer is required to activate automation.
